Fractions , fractions, FRACTIONS!! That's what we've done for the past month. We have started adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. We have also been preparing for our test which is coming up on March 9. Some of the other things we have been doing are using tape diagrams and area models to show our work and explain our thinking. Because of vacation, we didnt get a ton done this month, but be sure to be perparing for our test! Good luck!

In ELA we're working on debatable issues! As a class we researched if schools should serve chocolate milk in schools. We used many different way of organizing our research. Then we were split into groups each researching different debatable topics. Some things that we researched were: should you support or boycott zoos, should you take risk of extreme sports, is underwater or space explorations more importation., and should sharks protect themselves from us, or should we protect ourselves from sharks. Then we took all of our information that we gathered and did a big debate! Each group had a chance to debate in front of the class, and then reflected on our debates.
By: Sam Nelson In February, in science and social studies we did many fun things and learned a lot. In social studies we were working on the first 3 settlements of the New World. The Roanoke's, Jamestown colony, and the Plymouth colony. We have read many secondary sources and primary sources from: Powhatan a native chief, John Smith, and many more. In science we were working on mixtures and solutions. We did so many fun experiments. One was on dilute and concentrated liquid. We tasted a cup of kool-aid that had 1 teaspoon of kool-aid mix and another cup of kool-aid that had 3 teaspoons of kool-aid mix but, both cups had the same amount of water.
In Science we are working with Mixtures and Soultions. Also we did a lab involving Mixtures. It was super exciting!
In Social Studies we are reading Christphor Columubs's journal. We are also are learing about Primary Sources and Secondary Sources. Here are some examples: Primary Source- something created or taken in the time of the event Secondary Source- something created along time after the event Written by: Sam In science with Mrs. Buffone, we have been working on living Systems and Food chains/webs. We also just grew plants which grew SUPER high. We recently had a test that we all did pretty good on. Our class loves science and we are excited to find out what's next!
Social Studies is great so far, we are learning about the age of exploration. We also recently learned about a specific explorer from the age of exploration in group and we will soon be creating book creators. We are also using Daily Geo's so Mrs. Gestrich can see what we know. We recently did our chapter 4 projects, and, not to brag, but they turned out amazing! Social Studies is awesome and we love Mrs. Gestrich! -Elise F. In ELA we are working on getting better at spelling by doing spelling groups. We are also learning about summarizing by using the SWBST (somebody, wanted, but, so, then) method and making book creators with Mrs. Garrett. We are then uploading them to Seesaw (read about it the previous post). Now, since it is a short week, we are making RAFT's. They are all turning out really nicely, and are super fun to write! RAFT stands for Role of the writer, Audience, Format, and Topic. Some examples of what people are writing about is: Yoga balls, brown pens, a coffee cup, or Donald Trump! Next week, we are excited to begin book clubs!
-Elise F. In November, in math, we worked on using words and rounding to represent multiplication and division. We created Explain Everythings about tape diagrams and using word form and then uploaded them to Seesaw. Seesaw is an app where you can upload your projects and your class can comment and like them. All of the posts had to be approved my Mrs. Kewriga and Mrs. Gestrich first. It is kind of like a classroom Facebook. We have also been using our Eureka notebooks to do homework and work on problem sets. We are excited to see what math activities are coming up in the future!
